Since the invasion of Ukraine by Russia nearly three months ago, I have discovered a dearth of truly Orthodox Christian response to this tragedy. Most responses I have found are driven by fleshly passion and devoid of sound reason. As an American I have come to expect this from my government, but I had hoped for so much more from the leadership of the Holy Orthodox Christian Church. This is so unfortunate, however, even our Lord prophesied that in the latter day "brother will betray brother to death..." (Mark 13:12)
In my experience as Orthodox Priest, Army Chaplain I have had the good fortune of knowing a brother priest and at one time brother-in-arms, Army Chaplain, whose work in the arena of moral theology and ethics I have found exceptionally helpful and grounding. He serves as a Priest in the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR) and recently spearheaded the work to establish an accredited Master of Divinity degree program at Holy Trinity Russian Orthodox Seminary, Jordanville, NY. I commend to all who desire an Orthodox Christian response and perspective on the war in Ukraine, the following interview - Questions on Ukraine .
